What’s Up, Wednesday?

I’m…

Quiet Grading Week

Working on: making my way through a stack of paper topic proposals for class. Looks like Prohibition, the Great Depression, and the JFK assassination are well on track to remain the 3 most popular research paper topics, for the 4th year running.

Reading: First into Nagasaki still… I’ve been really bad about keeping up with my resolution. I went from 6 books in January to a whopping 1/4 of a book in February. But now that the semester is in full swing, and I’m used to the hectic schedule again, I’m sort of adjusting a bit better and beginning to make some progress. I’m hoping for at least three books in March.

Listening to: Bagpipes and Irish fiddle music… Parade Day Cometh…

Watching: a whole lot of nothing now that the Olympics are over. I dog and house sat for my Uncle for the last few days of the games, so I got to watch NBC’s coverage and in the process I sort of overdosed myself on TV for a while. I’ve been tending more towards gaming in my free “I don’t want to think right now” time since.

Playing: Skyrim and Oblivion. A few sick days where my brain was way too foggy to focus on anything requiring thinking got me back into the video game world, and I’m sort of regretting it. Wandering around Tamriel is just a whole lot more appealing than my real world adult responsibilities at the moment.

Feeling: Generally anxious, without real reason. My new looming financial situation is most likely to blame, but at this point I’ve processed the panic, and it’s devolved into this very general anxiety about everything and nothing all at the same time. Probably another reason why I’ve been escaping into video games a bit more often than usual.

I have a Belle mug like that too! My sister gave it to me for my birthday last month. I apologize if you’ve already explained, but what is Parade Day? Does it have to do with St. Patrick’s Day? I hope that everything regarding your financial situation gets more settled and the anxiety will subside. It sounds like a tough spot to be in.

I love my Belle mug! I fell so absolutely in love with the illustration on it when I saw it at Disney, I just had to have it. Also – Parade Day is in fact our St. Paddy’s Day Parade. I had not mentioned it before – I just forget that everyone doesn’t know what I’m talking about! It’s such a big deal in my hometown that it’s just “Parade Day” – it’s a REALLY big deal here! Sorry about that! And thank you for the well wishes – it’s a tough spot, but I’ll make it through!

I’m from the Scranton area in Northeastern PA. We Scrantonians take our parade seriously! We’re actually ranked 2nd or 3rd largest parade in the nation based on participants per population for cities over 50,000 and have been on a number of “US’s Best St Paddy’s Parades” list. We can’t quite compete in overall scale with somewhere like Boston or NYC because we’re not that big of a place, but we certainly take it just as seriously! It’s sort of our own version of Mardi Gras.
