30 Days of Gratitude and Reflection – Day 1

Something You Do Every Day: Interact With This Nerd This is Olive Olive is my apartmentmate’s cat. I introduced her to you guys when we got her, and last Christmas regaled you with the story of how she reacted poorly to having the Christmas tree up. You also may know her from the background of a few post photos here and there. Well, Olive and I have a… complicated relationship. Sometimes we’re the best of friends – perfect couch cuddle buddies and reading pals. Sometimes though… sometimes our relationship is antagonistic. To put it mildly. You heard all about her behavior that led me to take down my now-broken Christmas…

    Instagram Update

I’m finally starting to get a little bit ahead of things though, so as I polish up the next few posts, I figure let’s do a bit of a visual update featuring pictures from my personal Instagram that won’t make it to the blog account – now that I’ve finally remembered the password for it. I hope everyone has been well and I’m looking forward to getting back in the swing of things!)

    Meet Hilde

Blog? Meet Brunhilde. She’s my parent’s new puppy. And she’s awesome. She’s a little bit bold, a little bit clumsy, and all daredevil. Hilde had a rather rough introduction into our lives. Within three hours of bringing her home, she was already adapting well – running around with that excited bliss that only puppies really have. But then she tried to superman dive towards a toy, landed wrong, and immediately started screeeeaaammmmmiiinnnggggg. Turns out clumsy-girly-dog had landed on her elbow and broke the little nub on it. So Brunhilde, in the span of three hours, had her first car ride, met her new family and sister dog, explored her new…

    New Year, New Goals

This year I’ve decided that instead of making general resolutions, I’m going to try to set slightly more specific goals. While I had a moderate amount of success with some of my plans from last year, the ones that I failed the most at were the ones that could have easily been made more specific (like, “read more” and “work more efficiently”). However, on the other hand, I’ve made “do this every day” kinds of resolutions before, and without fail – well – I fail. So this year, I’m instead trying to keep end goals in mind and leaving the process of getting there a little more open and flexible…

    HAPPY 2015!!!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a happy and fun-filled holiday season – the Christmas/New Year’s season is by far one of my busiest, so I’m still playing catch-up a bit here. I’ve got a couple New Year’s related posts on the docket for the next week, but in general am still cleaning stuff up from the holidays. I was able to get a bit more into the season than I thought I would be able to as of last post – I spend the holiday at my parent’s house, and that really helped. Their house always looks like a christmas decoration store exploded inside, and being surrounded by…

    I’m Thankful For…

So… uhhh… I guess it’s a week and a half into December? What? When did that happen? But… uhhh… I haven’t even made my Thanksgiving thankful for post yet. Whoops. I SWEAR Thanksgiving was just yesterday. SWEAR. But anyway, this year I’m thankful for the little things. My schedule has made for a very overwhelming semester, and as we wind down I’ve had to try REALLY hard to remind myself to take joy in the small things. Because when I remember, oh boy does it help take some of the weight off. So this year I’m thankful for… … pink “kitten” noses.* …a good cup of coffee and a dash…

    New Addition…

We got a new addition to our apartment last week. Blogosphere? Meet Olive. The apartmentmate got her last week, and we all fell in love instantly. She’s about four months old, and seriously one of the most energetic, friendliest cats I’ve ever met. And this face! The only real problem is that she’s VERY hard to photograph. Between how dark she is, and the fact that the only time she’s sitting still is when she’s fast asleep… it’s pretty much impossible. Except, sometimes I get lucky.

Mani Monday: Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe

So last week I helped my mom take our big galoot of a labrador, Rusalka, to the vet for her annual check-up. She’s a lab, and she’s highly excitable and STRONG. It always helps to have an extra body on hand for these things, particularly if the vet ends up with an emergency and we end up having to wait a little bit longer than our usual five minutes. Well, guess what happened? The vet ended up with not one but TWO emergencies around our appointment time and we ended up waiting for almost an hour with our big, strong, and by that point completely cracked out blonde lab. She…
