Onto my 1950’s look. Bumper bangs and a high pon Onto my 1950’s look. Bumper bangs and a high ponytail. This was a frustrating one. The bumper bangs turned out ok (although I don’t personally think they suit my face shape) but my hair is ENTIRELY too thin for so much to be tied up in the front without the ponytail looking rattailly and pathetic. I love how this pic came out - it reminds me of a pic I saw ages ago of my Great Aunt Mary, but with the face giving more my own grandma vibes, which all makes me very happy. They were and are two of my favorite people in the world, and I usually don’t think I look anything like either of them. The hair is also my favorite of the bunch - victory rolls in the front with a big ol’ roll across the nape of the neck. I know I shouldn’t have done my regular eyeliner if I was trying to be accurate, but I was doing these looks for video lectures and without the eyeliner my webcam made me look super washed out. And here’s my 1930’s-ish look. It’s for sure And here’s my 1930’s-ish look. It’s for sure more of a late 30’s feel, but it makes sense given that this was a look that I did for my first WWII lecture. Also I should have taken my glasses off bc they deffo ruin the vibe a little. The dress is a 1930’s repro print though, and is me-made using #sewoverit ‘s #pennydress pattern. (This is gonna be a bit of a weird transition in m (This is gonna be a bit of a weird transition in my grid, but I’ve been sitting on these portraits for three years now and I really need to just post and get them out of backlog.) One of the things that kind of helped keep me sane through the year of being stuck inside and remote teaching in 2020-2021 was occasionally doing my hair and makeup as close to period appropriate as I could get for lecture recordings, starting in the 1920s. I made it through to the 1970s before running out of steam. So here's the first in a series recording that effort - my attempt at fingerwaves in a faux bob, and Clara Bow inspired makeup. I was really pleased with the faux bob part - not so much with the fingerwaves. From straight on it looked much more like a 1950s brushout than 1920s waves. That was only amplified by the fact that I didn't have the supplies or know-how to block out my eyebrows to really get that 1920's shape. Happy Halloween! Remember how on the TV show Bones Happy Halloween! Remember how on the TV show Bones, Brennan had that thing about ALWAYS being Wonder Woman for Halloween? I guess that’s me and Rosie the Riveter now. It’s just so easy for me to pull together after I inevitably forgot it’s Halloween until the day before. At least this year I’ve got a more accurate headscarf and my 30’s repro boots from American Duchess to add to it. Maybe next year I’ll have some 40’s coveralls sewn up… One of these days I’ll have my shit together for a more involved costume though.
