Hi, I’m Maggie, aka Magpie.

To sum myself up, I’m just an average 33 year old trying to make the most of every day. I spend an inordinate amount of time as a musical sellsword in order to help finance my History teaching habit. Making ends meet as an adjunct professor can be time consuming, but in what little free time I do have I like to read, write, make things, and play video games.

I’ve been blogging on and off on various platforms for about 17 years, and it’s become a hobby that I value dearly as a way to keep some perspective in my life and keep myself from becoming a work-a-holic. My schedule is crazy for most of the year, and my main historical research interests are kind of dark and can really wear on the psyche – lots of death, sorrow, unprecedented destruction, and the worst possible sides of humanity. So, I make an effort to surround myself with bright and happy things as much as I can. Glitter is my everything, I love nail polish and make-up but rarely use either, and I’ve become a very big fan of bright colors and vintage style in the last few years. I also have a deep appreciation for memes and I use the em dash and parenthetical asides WAY too much in my informal writing.

My SO of 10 years (now husband!), Jim, and I have a black labrador retriever named Haruka. The two of them, along with my parent’s dogs – Brunhilde and Seiglinde – make appearances here occasionally, and often on my instagram/instastories.
