    Still Here.

So, I’m still here. Yup, still here. Been quiet lately. Still got major anxiety issues. Still heavier than ever. But I’m still here. Making my way out of the hole of anxiety, inactivity, and stress induced physical illness. Slowly. Very slowly. But surely. This spring has been just hit after hit after hit. Just as I would feel like I was making progress, something else would happen. Another crisis. Another panic. Sometimes of my own making. Sometimes 100% out of my control. I still haven’t figured out which is worse. But I am resilient. I am strong. I will get there. I am still here. And that’s what’s important.

30 Days of Gratitude and Reflection – Day 5

Someone Else’s Talent: Jim’s Astounding Ability to Make Me Laugh Today I’m thankful for my awesome, amazing, and wonderful Significant Other’s sense of humor. Jim is one of the funniest and most clever people I’ve ever met, and his ability to make me laugh in even the darkest moments is not just a talent – but often borders on miracle. He keeps the light in my life even when my pessimist self is convinced it’s gone forever, and I cherish every moment spent laughing together. Who’s talent are you thankful for today?

30 Days of Gratitude and Reflection – Day 3

Help Received or Help Given: My Mom’s Help Dying My Hair So we’re going to lighten it up a little bit after yesterday’s really heavy post. I went brunette recently. It was supposed to be for a Katniss Everdeen halloween costume. I hate the synthetic texture of all the wigs in my price range, and my hair – if straight and thin – is indeed long enough to do her iconic braid. Go figure.)…

I enjoy this time of year so much, watching as all these fresh faces navigate their way from terrified and trying to hide it to truly feeling at home here – watching a whole new generation of people fall in love with the campus that has meant so much to me over the years. As these college newbies flood in, I can’t help but think about my days in…

    So, Photoshop is Hard…

So I’ve finally made the switch to Photoshop – I figure get that subscription to creative cloud while I still can afford to finance it, and I’ll have it for a year at least. I’ve spent most of the weekend so far trying to re-orient myself, and I can honestly say it’s not going so well. There’s most definitely a learning curve coming at this having used GIMP for the last 7 years… but I’m getting there slowly but surely. Any of you Photoshop users? If so, any tips for a Photoshop newbie like me?

    Happy Winter Olympics!

It’s no secret that I love the Olympics. So in honor of the Winter Olympics starting in Sochi last Friday, I gave myself an Olympic themed mani, in the colors of the teams I’m rooting for. The accent nails are a little obvious: the USA and the UK. Then the solid red nails are for Japan. So I’ve got my country of birth and residence, the two countries where my main research interests belong, and the accent nails also work for Russia – host country and where some of my ethnic heritage is. The only country that got left out is Ukraine (the biggest chunk of my ethnic heritage) –…
